The aim of School of Wok is to bring the simple techniques of Chinese cooking to your own kitchen so that you, your family and friends can master the art of Chinese cooking without straying too far from home. Based in Harrow, I am happy to travel anywhere within Middlesex and Central London.
A word from the chef:
The eating culture is a way of life that is engrained in the minds of most who have lived or grown up in the Eastern world. In China, the colloquial greeting when passing by even a stranger in the street is 'Ni Chi Fan Le Ma?' in translation 'Have you eaten yet'? And if the answer is no - eating would move straight to the top of your priority list. For me, the most appropriate Western phrase for this general 'way of life' is 'Live to Eat' rather than 'Eat to Live'.
Growing up in a competitive family of Chinese chefs and food connoiseurs I quickly learnt that as we all loved eating so much, cooking was a very important skill to learn. And so, my food adventure started…

As a young child, the first food challenge that my father set me was to understand how important it was for a Pang to know how to eat a Chilli... And then I moved onto learning about the explosive surprise you get when you bite straight into a raw oyster. Lessons that I now realise he pushed me to learn purely for his own entertainment... But I guess I'm a great fan of 'No pain no gain' and now know that being lucky enough to taste such intriguing foods at such a young age has really brought me to where I am today.
In the last few years I have surrounded myself in my two biggest passions: food and travel. During this time, I have been exploring many different avenues. Having spent most of my recent time learning the culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu, working in restaurants and as a travel journalist in South East Asia, I have been surrounded by the wonders of Chinese and Asian cuisine. The short Chinese cookery courses that I offer at the School of Wok will give you a unique insight into some simple culinary techniques, that for some reason, in the UK, have been kept quite secret by the Chinese restauranteurs over the last two to three generations.
Whether you would like to have a quick course in how to learn your favourite Chinese dishes, understand the basic principles of the different Chinese cooking techniques we use in our home kitchens or if you are extra keen and want to learn more about food presentation, timing and creating more banquet style dishes, a few hours with School of Wok will be brilliant fun and extremely educational.
